My first novel, Ten Good Seconds of Silence (2001) was a finalist for the Amazon.ca Best First Novel Award, the City of Toronto Book Award, and Writers' Trust of Canada Fiction Prize. My second novel, Smoke, (2005) was selected by librarians and booksellers for the amazing One Book One Community program. Both books have been published internationally and are taught in Canadian high schools and universities. In April of 2013, Cormorant Books published my third novel, Matadora, about a female bullfighter. The novel takes place in Spain and Mexico during the 1930's and deals with themes of love and ambition. Check back soon for more information. I'm currently working on a number of other writing projects – a creepy longish story/novella, some children's books, and a collection of poetry.
